DeAmbroene Outlaw
Meet DeAmbroene, a warrior with a powerful story!
Dee’s hair loss journey started in 2020. Stationed at Walter Reed National Medical Center twelve years into her military service with the U.S. Army, De was doing powerlifting training when she discovered a small lump in her breast. Unfortunately, this initial discovery led to a cancer diagnosis, which later led to the need for chemotherapy treatments.
Select Your Crown first came into contact with Dee when she arrived at our home salon for a wig consultation with Markeisha. After learning of Dee’s experiences – her military service, her cancer, her hair loss – we were inspired. It didn’t take long for us to recognize that she needed to be our first 2023 wig recipient. In fact, the story was even featured on local channel 5.
Now, Dee has a crucial message for fellow veterans…

Meet Donna, a devoted U.S. Army veteran.
Donna served our nation for 17 years. And she has struggled with alopecia areata for years. Upon receiving her SYC crown in 2021, Donna delivered an emotional message to fellow vets grappling with alopecia, proclaiming, "There is help, you don't have to hide."
Her words resonate with resilience, encouraging others to seek support and embrace self-care options without reservation. Donna's story exemplifies the courage to confront challenges, fostering solidarity among veterans facing both visible and unseen struggles, such as the impact of alopecia.
Carolyn Larkin
Meet Carolyn, a true force to be reckoned with!
In 1999, after more than 21 years of dedicated service in the U.S. Army, Carolyn hung up her uniform and left Fort Campbell, where she’d last been stationed. From there, Carolyn then used her grit and resilience to boldly venture into the entrepreneurial business world. Today, 24 years later, her enterprise is still going strong.
Throughout these years, Carolyn faced a persistent challenge, beyond the military and business battlefield. Her alopecia journey started over 30 years ago. It was only in 2021, after years of bravely struggling with this autoimmune condition, that she came upon Select Your Crown. That same year, Carolyn became a proud SYC wig recipient, turning another page in her story of strength and triumph.
We salute Carolyn – a veteran, entrepreneur and survivor - whose journey embodies the essence of resilience and success. Here's to her unwavering spirit and the exciting chapters yet to come!
